Beads for Bail
BEADS FOR BAIL is a fundraiser where all proceeds will go to the Marengo Police and Marengo Fire Department for their annual Breast Cancer Awareness campaign.
HOW IT WORKS
- Fill out a "Summons" form. To obtain a form, you can (a) message us, (b) go to the Marengo-Union Chamber of Commerce during Chamber business hours, or (c) check here on our website.
- Each summons requires a $10 donation to Settlers' Days (can be done online, mail in, or drop off at the Chamber).
- On the form, you will provide the name of a *willing* participant as a defendant and state their “crime” (the funnier, the better!).
- A summons will be served to the defendant between October 1st and October 8th.
- The defendant will be asked to appear before a judge on Friday, October 10th by 7pm at TrYst Lounge, where he/she will be given rations during the hearings.
- At the hearing, a judge will determine (based on the crime) what the bail should be set at. Bail is payable in strands of special beads.
- To be released, the defendant must raise the required number of strands of beads to be used for bail redemption. Beads can be purchased at $5.00 per strand.
- While waiting for your bail to be raised, the defendant can call or text family and friends to help post bail or plead with members of the "courtroom".
*Summons will be served only in the Marengo/Union area, unless done by email.
